Tip 1: Reorganize periodically to create space

Tip 3: Invest in collapsible furniture

Chances are a glass coffee table, wooden tables and chairs, sectional sofas and other non-moveable pieces of furniture take up most of your space and make the room feel overcrowded. Purchasing collapsible furniture - such as folding tables, chairs, dressers, and even collapsible bathtubs - will go a long way to opening up space. These items can be stored away when not in use to create more valuable room. Figure out what the essential furniture pieces are that you need day to day. The rest can and should be stored until needed.

Tip 4: Purchase multifunctional furniture that offers innovative storage

While collapsible furniture will help save space, furniture with innovative storage spaces will create even more valuable room. Replacing existing bulky furniture with pieces that offer storage functions, like a bed frame with built-in storage space for heavy winter clothing and bedding, is quite popular in Hong Kong. A coffee table with built-in storage can also double as a book case and the perfect place for remote control equipment. Loft beds are also a good solution with the upper level used for sleeping and the area below used for everything from wardrobes to a working desk and chair.

Tip 5: Find a self-storage space that suit your needs

If the first four tips are still insufficient to solve your storage needs, it’s time to seriously consider the right self-storage space for your belongings. Be judicious and make some tough decisions, figure out which items you plan on putting into storage and how much space you will need. Most self-storage units charge based on size and type of storage, so you will save a lot of time searching for the right space, as well as money, if you fully understand your needs. There are other factors beyond space to be considered as well - most notably storage hygiene, security and access to your belongings.
